The Cathedral of Coronation is considered the symbol of the reunification of the country, because here happened on 15 October 1922 the most beautiful moment in the history of the Romanians: the act of the crowning of King Ferdinand I and Queen Mary as sovereigns of Great Romania.
The cathedral was built between 1921-1922 according to the plans of the architect Victor Ştefănescu, under the leadership of the engineer Tiberiu Eremia, the pictorial decoration being made by Costin Petrescu, the one considered to be a master of the fresco. The edifice is a monument of neo-brâncovenesc style architecture, presenting elements of Byzantine tradition, being made according to the model of the church of the Princely Court in Târgovişte. The cathedral has a Greek cross with an impressive central dome supported by four red marble columns.
