The Great Union Day from December 1, 1918 is the national holiday of Romania. It marks the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Romanian Kingdom in 1918. This holiday was set after the Romanian Revolution and commemorates the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia, which declared the Union of Transylvania with Romania.

250000 romanian soldiers lost their lives in the First World War. They are buried in tens of cemeteries from Romania and abroad.

According to the UNESCO’s definition, culture represents a series of distinctive characteristics, specific to a society or a social group spiritual, material, intelectual and emotional. For this reason, culture must be understood, promoted and respected, which means knowledge (through education and instruction, in the school, at home etc), pasive participation (as art consumers) or active participation, but also by respecting the intellectual property rights.
During human history, everything that resists and remains in the collective memory is represented by art and culture, no matter the form in which they are materialized.
Taking into consideration that this year is unique to Romania, we are celebrating 100 years from the Great Union Day and from the Romanian Reintegration War of 1917, we must also remember the ones who 100 year ago made an apparent impossible dream happen: The union of all Romanians.”
