The original text of the recipe: “We take a few round and more dry cuts and cut them into thick slices, squeezing them into sweetened wine, then squeezing them with marmalade and sticking two to two. We put them on sugary paper and sprinkle with vanilla sugar. “Source: Post-eating, Maria Parvulescu, 1938
8 slices of bread (baguette)
1/2 glass of red wine
1 tablespoon sugar
a few tablespoons of marmalade
3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1/2 cup of oil
sugar vanilla powder
Cut the bread stick in slices of the thickness of a finger
Place the wine in a deep dish and mix with the sugar (1 tablespoon) until it melts completely
Take each slice of bread and soften lightly on all sides in the sweetened wine (each piece of bread to be served with wine including the bark)
With slices soaked in wine sandwiches are made with marmalade, that is: take a slice of bread, spread marmalade on its surface and top another bread slice
Each sandwich is well served with breadcrumbs (make sure we have enough bread on all sides) and brownish, on both sides, in hot oil
When ready, sandwiches are taken from the pan and placed on the kitchen paper (to be absorbed in the oil)
Powder well all sides with vanilla sugar
They are served
When we sweeten the wine, we taste it and add sugar if it is needed depending on its own taste and the type of wine used.
Even if the original recipe recommends a stronger bread, I used a fresh bag (barely bought), but care should be taken when soaking the slice in the wine does not soften hard.
I used apricot marmalade. If you do not have marmalade, I think it works very well and a thicker jam.
